Privacy policy
How we handle your personal information, and the rights you have over it.
Who we are
RJS Electrical ("we", "us") is a sole trader electrical contracting business operated by Richard Smith, based in Cheshire and serving Crewe, Nantwich and the surrounding areas. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us by email at richard@rjselectricalcheshire.co.uk or by phone on 07990 844234.
What information we collect
- Your name, phone number, email address and property address when you enquire about work.
- Details of the work you are asking about, including any photographs you choose to send us.
- Records of quotes, jobs carried out, certificates issued and payments.
- Basic technical information from this website, such as pages viewed, where you consent to it.
We do not ask for special category data, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To respond to your enquiry and provide a quote — our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, and steps taken prior to entering a contract.
- To carry out and certify work — performance of a contract with you.
- To meet legal and regulatory duties — including electrical certification, notification of work and tax records — legal obligation.
- Optional cookies and embedded maps — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Enquiry and quote forms
Our quote forms are hosted by third-party trade platforms on our behalf. Nothing is submitted until you complete and send the form on that platform, and we only use what you send to respond to your enquiry.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only where necessary: with the trade platforms that host our enquiry forms, with our accountant, with scheme providers or certification bodies where a job must be notified or registered, and with suppliers where equipment must be ordered or registered in your name (for example an EV charge point manufacturer or a grant scheme).
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to 12 months. Records of completed work, certificates and related financial records are kept for at least six years, in line with tax and liability requirements.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its use, request portability, and withdraw consent where consent is the basis we rely on. To exercise any of these, email richard@rjselectricalcheshire.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Security and changes
We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure, including limiting who can access it. We may update this policy from time to time; the current version always appears on this page.
